Getting Started: Beginners Quilting Patterns
I remember the time when I got my beginners quilting patterns book. My first granddaughter had just been born, and I had bought the book to help me make a beautiful quilt for her. At first, I thought reading the book would be a walk in the park but when I began, it felt like it was almost in some other language.
Quilting has its own language and it is important that one read the beginners book very carefully. Skim reading is certainly not recommended here. It is important to read every word.
When making your beginners quilting pattern it is important to realize that all patterns basically follow the same outline. Each pattern has the following sections – the basic information, the total size of the pattern, the size of the block; the kind and quantity of fabrics that will be needed; cutting instructions; assembly directions; the order of the blocks; and finally binding.
Few Points To Get Started
When starting with the beginners quilting pattern, it is important to realize a few points so that one does not give up the hobby that one has begun to love. Quilting requires patience, and it is common to lose that patience while coming across stumbling blocks right in the beginning.
So it is important to remove these stumbling blocks before they arrive! One of the things that need to be done before starting is to arrange for every tool that will be used and to keep them in close proximity. The same should be done to any material that might be needed such as thread and fabrics.
Secondly, quilting requires that at least in the beginning, one practice this art at a cool and calm spot so that there can be minimal distractions. Finally, sufficient time should be allotted to the exercise. I would recommend at least 3 hours for the initial few quilting sessions.
Also, while starting with beginners quilting pattern, it is important to select designs that look simple. If they look simple, they will be simple to make as well. This is important as starting with a pattern that is difficult increases the possibly of coming across a stumbling block that can make the experience less pleasant.
This happening right at the start can damage your enthusiasm for the art. Fabric choice is also important for quilting. In the beginning, one is bound to make mistakes and hence a good quality fabric must be chosen that can hide your mistakes.
